I’m sure we’ve all heard of strawberry girl makeup, latte makeup, and blueberry milk nails, but what are they, and why are they going viral? Food-inspired beauty trends have been taking over our everyday beauty routines, going beyond makeup into nail, skincare, and hairstyle trends. The marketing behind these trends strategically taps into our collective nostalgia, creating a sense of familiarity, and making them more intriguing to us. Food continues to be a source of comfort, which is why it’s doing so well in the beauty industry. Beauty icon Hailey Bieber has been a huge influence on these food trends as she strategically uses these trends to advertise her products and position herself as a trendsetter.

Strawberry Girl Makeup

The strawberry girl makeup look went viral when Hailey Bieber posted a TikTok of her doing “Everyday Strawberry Makeup 🍓💋” on herself. No, this does not involve any real strawberries but rather the dewy makeup style of many pink and red tones. It started as a way for her to indirectly promote her new Rhode blushes, as well as other Rhode products that she used in the video. The “clean girl aesthetic” has been a major turning point in today’s beauty world, so the use of fresh strawberries as makeup inspiration is relevant. Although this makeup look is not much different from other ones we’ve already seen before, the appeal comes from the aesthetic and imagery that form from its title.

Latte Makeup

Latte makeup is looks that are based on brown and nude shades that appeal to caffeine lovers (and even non-caffeine lovers). Its traction is partially a result of being achievable for people with different levels of makeup skills. Yet again, Hailey Bieber sets her influence with this trend as well. She posted a TikTok titled, “Latte Makeup 🥛☕️☕️ but let’s make it head to toe,✨” where she shares her take on latte makeup while wearing an outfit to match the latte color scheme. She tagged Rhode in her caption, making it apparent that her latte makeup tutorial is also to market her brand’s products. This makeup look stays consistent with the glowy skincare and makeup trends while adding its own bronzy, pigmented twist.

Glazed Donut Skin

We’ve talked about the makeup trends, but how could food have anything to do with skincare? I’m here to answer your question. As mentioned before, natural and dewy makeup trends are influencing skincare. Similar to the “glass skin” trend from 2022, glazed donut skin emulates the same glossy aesthetic but with the addition of food imagery. Nothing says shiny and smooth like a mouth-watering glazed donut. One major product that has influenced this glow revolution is snail mucin, which went viral as an addition to many people’s everyday skincare routines. Hailey Bieber comes in as an influence with more of her Rhode products. Her peptide glazing fluid and glazing milk supposedly do the trick to achieve glazed donut skin. This creates an association between a delicious donut and Rhode skincare products, making the products more enticing.

Blueberry Milk Nails

Food-inspired trends do not stop at makeup at skincare. Blueberry milk nails were a summer favorite. Essentially, it’s no different from the light blue colored manicures we’ve always known, but once an aesthetic becomes attached, it transforms a hot new trend. The specific shade is a pale powdery blue meant to resemble the creaminess and freshness of blueberry milk. The food-based nail trend names seemed to emerge with Hailey Bieber’s glazed donut manicure, which are nails with an iridescent chrome powder on top to make the nail look ‘glazed.’ This 2022 trend was a turning point for nails and the rest of the beauty culture, implementing more food-named trends that followed.

Cinnamon Cookie Butter Hair

Another emerging trend named after food and spearheaded by Hailey Bieber is this cinnamon cookie butter hair color. If you’re wondering what to ask your hairdresser for at your next appointment, this color combines caramel, copper, and gold tones, making it the perfect color for the fall season. It’s still a natural brunette shade, yet it embodies all the elements that scream cinnamon cookie butter and is subtle without being boring. The edible-sounding name is what brings attraction to this hair color. The nostalgic scent of a warm and fresh Snickerdoodle cookie is unforgettable and intriguing for anyone. Hailey Bieber is capitalizing on this tactic by bringing food-inspired trends to nearly every beauty realm.

Hailey's Lasting Influence

Food has undoubtedly taken over today's modern beauty trends. The popularity of food-inspired beauty, while unsurprising, reveals a unique marketing tactic that allowed Hailey Bieber to successfully launch her skincare brand. From strawberry-kissed cheeks to blueberry milk-tinted nails, these trends have not only captured our imaginations but also our hearts, proving that comfort can indeed come in many forms—even in our makeup bags and skincare rituals. As we embrace these food-inspired beauty trends, it's evident that the industry is evolving into a space where creativity and comfort converge, led by visionaries like Hailey Bieber who dare to mix the unconventional with the familiar.
